Sherwood Scores Twice as Predators Defeat Sharks 4-2
USA TODAY Sports

Kiefer Sherwood scored twice and Juuse Saros made 23 saves to help the Predators win their fourth consecutive game on their west road trip. Filip Forsberg scored a power play goal for the Predators in the second period to pass David Legend as the second highest points scorer in franchise history behind teammate Roman Josi. Gus Nyquist added a late empty net goal to seal the 4-2 win.

Former Predator Mikael Granlund and Filip Zadina scored for the Sharks while goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen frustrated the Predators offense as he made 31 saves in the game.

Andrew Brunette went with the roster that won the three previous games on the road once again against San Jose.

Forsberg - O'Reilly - Nyquist

Trenin - Sissons - Glass

Jankowski - Novak - Evangelista

Smith - McCarron - Sherwood

Josi - Fabbro

McDonagh - Schenn

Lauzon - Carrier

Saros

A trip by Jeremy Lauzon gave the Sharks the first power play of the game at 4:53, but Juuse Saros came up with two saves and the Predators killed off the two minutes. At 10:14 Kiefer Sherwood scored off a well timed cross ice pass from Michael McCarron. San Jose had another late power play chance as Dante Fabbro was whistled for a high stick at 17:40. The Predators were able to kill off that penalty, and the teams headed into their respective locker rooms with Nashville up 1-0.

A hooking call on Kyle Burroughs gave the Predators their first power play of the game at 2:05, but San Jose goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen saved the three shots he faced. Ty Emberson held Filip Forsberg and gave the Predators another opportunity on the man advantage at 12:52, but again Nashville couldn't convert. The third time was the charm as Henry Thrun sat for a trip, and Filip Forsberg finally got a shot past Kahkonen at 18:27 to give the Predators a 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Former Predator Mikael Granlund got the Sharks on the board quickly in the third period with a goal at 1:10 to make it a one goal game. Kiefer Sherwood answered back two and a half minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it a 3-1 score.

The Sharks got it back to a one goal game as Filip Zadina cleaned up a loose puck midway through the period. Less than a minute later it appeared the Sharks may have tied the game in a net front scrum, but the review showed the puck did not cross the line.

While the goal didn't count, it did give San Jose momentum. They pressured Nashville offensively as time wound down. Kahkonen headed to the bench with just over a minute remaining in regulation, and the Sharks added the extra attacker. With eleven seconds left, Gus Nyquist intercepted a pass in the neutral zone and scored the empty net goal to make the final score 4-2.
