The St. Louis Blues today assigned 18 players to their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. In addition to that, Justin Carbonneau and Adam Jiricek were assigned to their junior teams. The 18 assigned to Springfield include forward Nikita Alexandrov and Hugh McGing, who cleared waivers along with Sam Bitten, Matthew Peca, Juraj Pekarcik, Dylan Peterson, Simon Robertsson, Jakub Stancl, Sam Strange, Nikita Susuev, and Chris Wagner. They also assigned five defenseman in Michael Buchinger, Quinton Burns, Marc-Andre Gaudet, Samuel Johannessson, Anthony Kehrer, and two goalies, Will Cranley and Vadim Zherenko. The Thunderbirds open training camp this week and start their preseason games next weekend. The Blues today also placed forward Matt Luff and defenseman Corey Schueneman on waivers.

Only two of the forwards assigned to Springfield recorded points as Nikita Alexandrov scored a goal, while Juraj Pekarcik recorded an assist. Alexandrov finished last season tied for second on the Thunderbirds in points with 49, also tied for second on the team in goals with 21. The forwards assigned to Springfield also finished the three games with the Blues as a combined minus-three.
The Thunderbirds defenseman finished as a minus-two as that came from Quinton Burns. No defenseman assigned today recorded a point in the three games with the Blues.
Zherenko appeared in one game, stopping five of the shots he faced in the Blues’ 4-1 loss to the Blue Jackets. Cranley played on Saturday and took the loss, stopping six of the nine shots he faced against the Blackhawks.
