St. Louis Blues sign Jordan Kyrou to eight-year contract extension

The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Jordan Kyrou to an eight-year contract extension carrying an $8.125 million annual cap hit, the club announced Tuesday morning.

Kyrou, 24, scored 27 goals and 75 points in 74 games with the Blues during the 2021–22 regular season. The 6’1″, 196-pound forward added seven goals and nine points in 12 playoff games.

Kyrou is now under contract with the Blues through the end of the 2030–31 season. His existing deal — worth $2.8 million annually — will expire after 2022–23, after which time the extension will take effect.

The Blues originally selected Kyrou in the second round (No. 35 overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, using the pick they acquired from the Calgary Flames in exchange for goaltender Brian Elliott.

Kyrou debuted with the Blues in 2018–19 and emerged as a regular with the team two seasons later, scoring 14 goals and 35 points in 55 games with St. Louis in 2020–21.

Even with Kyrou and Robert Thomas now signed to identical extensions, the Blues have a lot of work ahead of them next summer. Ryan O’Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko are both set to become unrestricted free agents in 2023, as is 26-goal scorer Ivan Barbashev.

In 173 career games with the Blues over parts of four seasons, Kyrou has scored 46 goals and 122 points. He’s now one of just seven NHL players signed through the 2030–31 season, the others being Thomas, Erik Cernak, Anthony Cirelli, Mikhail Sergachev, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Tim Stützle.
