Stanley Cup Champion Moe Lemay passes away at 62

Former Stanley Cup champion and player for the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Boston Bruins Maurice 'Moe' Lemay has passed away at the age of 62.

Lemay had a very solid career after being drafted by the Canucks in 1981. Overall, he had 70 goals and 92 assists over 279 games, which isn't bad at all. Meanwhile, he played a few seasons in Vancouver before going to the Edmonton Oilers where he won the Stanley Cup in 1987. The following year, he was sent to the Boston Bruins where he got to play against the Bruins for the Cup. However, it was the Oilers who came out victorious.

Having said that, Lemay was someone who fans adored quite a bit. He was a goal-scorer with some grit who didn't mind getting his hands dirty when the going got tough. This made him a fan-favorite and even a favorite amongst his teammates.

Interestingly enough, Lemay's career had a second wind in Europe. In the Bundesliga, which is now defunct, Lemay had a 96-point campaign with Sauerland Iserlohn ECD. Needless to say, the man could score and he was, of course, a beloved star in Germany.

Our heart goes out to the Lemay family following this awful tragedy. We hope his family and friends are able to get the support they need throughout this period of grief. RIP Maurice Lemay.
