The Dallas Stars dropped Game 5 of their second-round playoff series against the Winnipeg Jets, seeing the series lead be cut down to 3-2. Dallas was shut out by the Jets in the game, and the most exciting moment for the Stars came late in the contest.

Stars wing Jamie Benn punched Jets center Mark Scheifele, sending the crowd into a frenzy. After the hit occurred, it was only a matter of time before the NHL announced a punishment for Benn.

The league has announced that Benn would be fined $5,000 for roughing up Scheifele in the game. This is the maximum amount of money that the league is allowed to fine a player under the CBA.

The punch from Benn could motivate his team, but it could also send shockwaves through the Jets. Winnipeg was the best team in the league all season long, and they have been slow out of the gates against Dallas.

But the team found some momentum in Game 5, and they will be looking to bring that energy with them to Dallas for Game 6. Winnipeg has massively struggled on the road this postseason, going 0-5 so far.

If they want to extend this series, the Jets will need to figure something out very quickly. The Stars will be looking to close this matchup out and set up a rematch of the Western Conference Final last year.

But the league-leading Jets may have some extra firepower up their sleeves, and Game 6 could be one for the ages.
