The Dallas Stars have signed forward David Perron to a one-year contract, according to Elliotte Friedman. The deal is worth $850,000.

Perron Signs With the Stars

Perron split last season between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings. In 65 games between the two teams, he scored 13 goals and added 15 assists. The Red Wings acquired him at the trade deadline to help them make a playoff push, but the team ultimately fell short of its goal. Perron, back in Detroit for the second time in his career, scored just three goals in 16 games.

Career So Far

The Red Wings are not the only team Perron has had multiple stints with. He has played for the St. Louis Blues three different times. He was originally drafted by the organization in 2007. He was traded in 2013, re-signed in 2016, selected in the 2018 Expansion Draft, and then re-signed with the Blues before leaving again in 2022. With the Blues, he won the Stanley Cup in 2019.

In addition to the Blues, Senators, and Red Wings, Perron has also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, and Vegas Golden Knights. He was a member of the inaugural Golden Knights team that reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2018.

The Quebec native has played in 1,239 NHL games. He has scored 332 goals and has recorded 812 points.

Role With His New Team

In the prime of his career, Perron was someone who easily slid into the top six of any lineup. However, at 38 years old, he is not the player he once was. With the Red Wings, he primarily played on the third line. He will likely maintain that role in Dallas, although he could move up to the second line when needed.

Perron is someone who has found success on the power play in his career. While he only scored three goals last season, he could provide a spark on the power play should he get the opportunity.

Perron has never been known for his defense. His best opportunities to be productive in the lineup are to help generate offense. For the Stars, it is certainly a risk signing a forward who has not scored 15 or more goals since 2023-24. However, they still see value in the 2020 All-Star. Can he rise to the occasion?
