Stars sign forward Rhett Gardner to two-year deal

The Dallas Stars locked down one of their own for at least a couple of years on Thursday.

Dallas has confirmed the signing of forward Rhett Gardner to a new two-year contract. Gardner, 25, is set to make $750,000 each season through the spring of 2023, and he will be on a two-way deal for the 2021-22 campaign. The contract converts to one-way for 2022-23.

Gardner tallied one goal and one assist in 28 regular-season games with Dallas in 2020-21 for the first two points of his NHL career. He also spent time with the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League and has 13 goals and 16 assists in 68 career AHL contests.

He joined the organization via the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Last week, the Stars announced the signing of forward Blake Comeau to a one-year contract worth $1 million.

Dallas missed the postseason tournament and finished fifth in the NHL Central standings.
