A huge blow for the Dallas Stars, as a star veteran is going to miss an extended period of time once again.

On Wednesday, Stars staff writer Mike Heika reported that forward Tyler Seguin is going to be out long-term with an ACL injury.

Seguin was hurt less than two minutes into the Stars’ game on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers.

When trying to clear the puck out of his own zone, Seguin was checked by Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. The two awkwardly tangled before Gavrikov fell on Seguin’s right leg.

The Brampton, Ontario, native was seen lying on the ice in a great deal of pain, holding his leg. He had to be helped off the ice and was immediately taken down the tunnel to the team’s dressing room. He didn’t return to the game.

Seguin registered just 1:12 of ice time across two shifts. Dallas went on to lose the game, 3-2, in overtime.

There has been no definitive timeline for Seguin, whether he will return later this season, or if the Stars are going to place him on long-term injured reserve.

The latest injury is part of a laundry list of ailments for the former Boston Bruin. It was almost a year to the day when the Stars announced that Seguin was going to need hip surgery. He ended up missing over four months, limiting him to just 20 regular-season games. However, he was able to return in time for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, helping Dallas advance to the Western Conference Final for the third year in a row.

In the first 15 seasons of his NHL career, Seguin has only played 80 or more games six times, the last coming during the 2021-22 campaign.

So far this year, Seguin has scored seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 27 games. He has one more season on his eight-year contract, which carries a $9.85 million cap hit through the 2026-27 campaign.
