Stuart Skinner is back in the crease for the Oilers for the 1st time since Game 2 of the opening round, and things are looking just like they did for him against the Kings.
Crypto.com Arena was nothing short of a house of horrors for Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner in their Round 1 series against the Los Angeles Kings, as he allowed 11 total goals in the opening 2 games.
The Oilers then made the switch to goaltender Calvin Pickard, who subsequently rattled off 6 straight wins and broke a franchise record that was held by Hall of Famer Grant Fuhr.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, Pickard has gone down with an injury and is unavailable for tonight's Game 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights.
While Edmonton scored twice in a hurry thanks to a resurgent performance from veteran Corey Perry, the problems for Skinner started up again immediately.
Back in the crease for the 1st time since the end of Game 2 of the opening round against Los Angeles, Skinner allowed a pair of Golden Knights goals in less than a minute:
Stuart came into the game with a ghastly 6.11 GAA and .810 SV%. While he did help to bring the Oilers to within a single victory of the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup win since the end of their dynasty days in 1990, he did struggle and was briefly replaced by Pickard in their Round 2 series against the divisional foe Vancouver Canucks.
If the Oilers have to play without Pickard, it will be up to Skinner to carry the load and try and get them back to the mountain summit.
