Success in the playoffs for the Oilers has earned Corey Perry a performance bonus

The further the Edmonton Oilers advance into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the bigger the bonus gets for veteran winger Corey Perry.

After joining the Oilers in the middle of the 2023-24 season, Perry re-signed in Edmonton on a one-year contract worth up to $1.4 million. His base salary for 2024-25 was $1.15 million, with $250k coming through performance bonuses.

Perry hit the first $150k of his performance bonus early in the season when he played in his 15th game. The other $100k comes based on the team’s playoff success. Perry got a $50k bonus when the Oilers beat the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round, and he’ll get another $50k if Edmonton can take down the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final.

As noted by PuckPedia, the Oilers are among 11 teams that will carry a salary cap overage into the 2025-26 season: “After leading the league with the highest overage last year ($3.45 million), this year the Edmonton Oilers have one of the smallest overages at $150K, which comes from Corey Perry.”

Perry, who turned 40 years old earlier this month, has been money well spent for the Oilers. The former Stanley Cup champion and Hart Trophy winner finished fifth on the team with 19 goals during the regular season, and his five playoff goals are tied with Leon Draisaitl for the team lead.

Selected in the first round of the legendary 2003 draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Perry scored 372 goals and 776 points in 988 games over 14 seasons with the team before being bought out in 2019.

Since then, Perry has played for the Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, and now the Oilers, and he’s made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final with four of those five aforementioned teams.

Now at 1,392 games for his NHL career, Perry has scored 448 goals and racked up 935 points. He also has 59 goals and 134 points in 226 playoff games. Will he be able to add a second Stanley Cup to his resume this year?
