Over the course of Mitch Marner’s first nine years in the NHL, he and his Toronto Maple Leafs struggled in the playoffs, winning just two series despite making the postseason in each campaign.
But in his first season with the Vegas Golden Knights, he’ll make his Stanley Cup Final debut. Marner – who has a great chance at winning the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP with seven goals and 21 points so far – acknowledged how much it meant for him to finally get over the hump.
“A special moment. I’ve had some dark times in hockey for myself, honestly,” he said.
“That was a moment for me to just express some joy and fun there. I’ll enjoy it for the night, then be ready to go to work.”
The Golden Knights are making their third appearance in the Stanley Cup Final since their inception in 2017-18, while the Hurricanes are 20 years removed from their only championship.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Marner is one of 44 active NHL players with at least 20 points in a single Stanley Cup Playoffs. How many of those players can you name in six minutes?
Good luck!
