Despite once again out-shooting the Montreal Canadiens by a significant margin, the Carolina Hurricanes needed an offsides challenge to go their way to force overtime in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
But after holding Montreal to two shots-on-goal for the final 37:40 minutes of Game 3 between the third period and regulation, Andrei Svechnikov made his biggest play of this postseason. He pounded on an errant pass from Lane Hutson to create pressure on goaltender Jakub Dobes and Co. before the puck found its way back to him from Seth Jarvis. He fired off a one-timer and (thanks in part to a screen from Sebastian Aho), buried it to give Carolina the 3-2 win.
Carolina improved to 5-0 in overtime in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, winning 3-2 each time.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. After credit for the goal bounced from Svechnikov to Aho and back to Svechnikov, the former second-overall NHL Draft pick now has five game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With that being said, how many of the active NHL players with at least five game-winning goals in the Stanley Cup Playoffs can you name in eight minutes?
Good luck!
