Yesterday we saw the NHL debut of LA Kings goalie Erik Portillo and he had an impressive debut in LA’s 2-1 Victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Portillo made 28 Saves on 29 Shots for an.966 save percentage and was named the First Star of the Game for his efforts. He was sensational all game long and in the first period had several high-danger shots against the Ducks’ initial Powerplay that he saved. In the second period, you had his one blemish where he let up a juicy rebound after a nice deflection shot from the point and Strome capitalized on the chance. That’s the thing I would like to see Portillo work on as a team with more offensive skill will take full advantage of the juicy rebounds. In the third, he was at his best saving several high-danger chances including a shot by Troy Terry in the dying seconds of the game. He did leave the game for a brief equipment repair. He didn’t miss a beat when he came back 83 seconds later and is the main reason LA got a victory. He also finished with a 2.32 GSAx.
