The Flames’ best goals of 2024-25: Joel Farabee turns Thomas Harley inside out

The only trade the Calgary Flames made during the regular season came on Jan. 30.

They sent Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, their 2025 second-round pick, and their 2028 seventh-round pick for Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost. This is part of the larger Curtis Glencross trade tree of 2015; read more if you’d like here.

Both Frost and Farabee had rather unremarkable ends to their season, with the former scoring three goals and 12 points in 32 games, while Farabee scored three goals and six points in 31 games. Although Farabee made a minimal impact, one of his three goals was a top-five Flames goal from this season. In this article, we’ll look at Farabee’s goal against the Dallas Stars on Mar. 6.

Entering the game against the Stars, the Flames were clinging to the final wild card spot, as they were tied with the Vancouver Canucks with 67 points, while the St. Louis Blues had 66 points. Safe to say, the Flames needed a win.

Things started great, as Farabee found the back of the net. Picking the puck up in the neutral zone, he fought off Stars forward Evgeny Dadanov, making it a one-on-one scenario with Thomas Harley. The Stars’ defenceman bit hard when Farabee pulled the puck back, lunging in an attempt to knock it off the forward’s stick. Farabee anticipated this, sliding the puck to Harley’s left and beating his man for the breakaway. All it took was a quick backhand-forehand move in the hash marks to put it past the Stars’ netminder.
