The Mammoth just got some ugly injury news

Unfortunately, just before the season begins, the Utah Mammoth have already received disappointing injury news.

A former first-round pick, Maveric Lamoureux, who was going to be a big part of the defenseman corps in 2026-27, is out for 4-6 months.

Major injury news for the Mammoth

According to NHL. com, it doesn't look like Lamoureux will play in 2026 at all:

"Maveric Lamoureux had surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder and will miss 4-6 months, Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong announced Monday. The 22-year-old defenseman had one assist in five regular-season games with Utah last season, and 20 points (five goals, 15 assists) in 65 games with Tucson of the American Hockey League. Lamoureux was a first-round pick (No. 29) by the Arizona Coyotes at the 2022 NHL Draft."

The good news is that the defenseman could return late in the regular season. Meaning his season isn't over yet. Yet, 4-6 months means February-April. Lamoureux was going to be a big part of replacing some production that left in a guy like Ian Cole.

This puts even more pressure on the youngster Dmitri Simashev and raises some other questions as well. Perhaps another young defender who wouldn't have had a chance before now has a chance.

A name like Artem Duda could be huge in 2026-27 with this injury news. Unfortunately, not many can replace the size and physicality of Lamoureux, as he stands 6'6" though.

This news definitely isn't what Utah wanted to see this early in the season. Or really at any point in the season.
