Less than one year ago, Alexander Ovechkin passed Wayne Gretzky on the NHL’s regular-season all-time goals leaderboard. On Sunday, Ovi joined “The Great One,” as the only players with 1,000-career goals between the regular season and playoffs combined. But with just 11 games left in the 2025-26 season, it looks like he’ll need to stick around another year to pass Gretzky’s all-time mark of 1,016.
Despite looking likely to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for just the fourth time in his 21-year career, Ovechkin has continued to produce for the Caps at 40 years old. The nine-time Maurice Richard Trophy-winner and 2018 Stanley Cup champion has played in all 71 contests for Washington, scoring 26 goals and adding 27 assists for 53 total points.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to score the most goals in the regular season for each NHL franchise can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
