The 'NHL hat-trick leaders since 2000-01' quiz

The Buffalo Sabres may have lost five of their last seven games, but even with their defeat to the Washington Capitals, they achieved something that hasn’t happened since 2010-11. For the first time in 15 seasons, the Sabres will participate in the Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to the Detroit Red Wings defeating the New York Rangers on April 4.

By making the postseason, the Sabres leave the New York Jets as the team with the longest-active playoff drought in the “Big Four,” American sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL).

The Sabres return to the postseason has been driven largely by star Tage Thompson, who leads Buffalo with 38 goals and is second behind just Rasmus Dahlin in assists with 40 helpers for a team-high 78 points this year.

Which brings us to today’s quiz. Despite the futility of the Sabres for much of Thompson’s career, he’s established himself as one of the more reliable players in the NHL. With that being said, can you name the players to lead the NHL in hat-tricks for each season since 2000-01?

Good luck!
