With the end of the Los Angeles Kings 2025-26 season at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche came the end of one of the best NHL careers of a generation. Kings captain, two-time Selke Trophy winner and two-time Stanley Cup champion Anze Kopitar is officially hanging up the skates after a 20-year career.

Kopitar spent his entire two-decade NHL career with Los Angeles, and was a key piece of their title runs in 2012 and 2014. In 2014 he and the Kings made NHL history by rallying from a 3-0 series deficit against the San Jose Sharks to advance – and eventually lift the Stanley Cup. He retires as the franchise’s all-time leader in total points (1,316) and assists (864) and third on the all-time goals list with 452.
