The St. Louis Blues are in the driver’s seat in the Western Conference wild-card race
Jeff Le-USA TODAY Sports

Where have we heard this before?

“The St. Louis Blues are out of it, no way they are going to make the playoffs.”

Well, this might not be 2019, but this year’s Blues are finding ways to stay in the hunt for the postseason.

Thanks to a five-game win streak, St. Louis is sitting fourth in the Central Division, currently holding the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Granted, they are in a battle with a division rival, the Nashville Predators, for that last spot, but given the fact they were hanging outside of the playoff picture for the few months of the season, they have to like where they are now.

With one more game left before the All-Star break, the Blues have shown they can rise to the occasion, winning each of their last four games by a score of 4-3, reeling off overtime victories over the Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken and Los Angeles Kings, another team they are battling for postseason positioning.

While there is still a lot of hockey to be played, 34 more games to be exact, St. Louis is in control of their own destiny with just over a month before the Trade Deadline.

On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk look at the Blues’ chances of making the playoffs.

Frank Seravalli: I look at the Blues…and I go, “meh.” They’ve been playing better as of late, and you heard what Brayden Schenn was saying about their game.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Well, you could be a GM, like Doug Armstrong, you could be sitting there going, “Hey, it is such an average, meddling race, that if I wanted to trade off one of my defenseman, if I wanted to trade off Kevin Hayes, that probably isn’t going to be the difference between me getting into the eighth seed.”
