The week ahead for the Edmonton Oilers: Let the (regular season) games begin!

The Edmonton Oilers preseason has officially come to an end and on deck, is the start of the 2025–26 NHL season. Starting off the week, the Oilers found themselves down across the border to play the Seattle Kraken. In the first game of week three, Edmonton unfortunately came away with a loss, thanks to a final score of 4–2. The Oilers received their only two goals from Darnell Nurse and Matthew Savoie. The Oilers outshot the Kraken 34–17.

On the road again, for their second game of the week and final of the preseason, saw the Oilers matchup against their division rival Vancouver Canucks. With their two superstars in the lineup, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, this also looked to be close to what the final roster could look like for game one on October 8. Even with the firepower that they had and an NHL heavy lineup, Edmonton still lost to the Canucks by a final score of 3–2 in overtime. Vancouver received goals from Jonathan Lekkerimäki and Connor Garland, while the Oilers got their only goals of the game from Kasperi Kapanen and Leon Draisaitl. Edmonton and Vancouver both had 27 shots a piece. Leon Draisaitl was the second star of the game.

Edmonton Oilers schedule for the week of October 5 to October 11

Next up on the Edmonton Oilers schedule, is the start of the regular season and will see them play two games in four days against their Provincial rival Calgary Flames and division rivals Vancouver Canucks.

The Oilers are starting to have an idea of what their starting roster will look like, but there are still some final decisions to be made and some players to be added.

Battle of Alberta: Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers, Wednesday October 8

The Oilers first game of the regular season, which also happens to be their home opener, will see them go head-to-head against their Provincial and division rivals, the Calgary Flames. Last season, the Oilers finished with two wins and one loss, thanks to, one win and one loss at home and one win on the road. Their only loss of the season against the Flames, happened to be at home in Oil Country during the beginning of the season on October 13, 2024.

Last season versus the Flames at home, Edmonton scored four goals and allowed six. On the road, Calgary scored twice and the Oilers scored four times.

Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers, Saturday October 11

The Oilers second game of regular season week one, will see them matchup against another one of their western division rivals, the Vancouver Canucks. Last season, the Oilers finished with two wins and one loss, thanks to, a win at home and a win on the road. Their only loss of the season against the Canucks, happened on the road in Vancouver shortly after the new year on January 18, 2025.

Last season versus the Canucks at home, Edmonton scored six goals and allowed two. On the road, Vancouver scored six and the Oilers scored nine.
