The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the more intriguing teams ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. Despite having a team that is in contention for one of the top picks in the draft, they could trade away some players and see what they have with some of their younger talent. There is an interesting name that could be moved in the next couple of days, so let’s take a closer look at who it is.

The Chicago Blackhawks could trade away Ilya Mikheyev before Friday’s trade deadline

Scott Powers of The Athletic wrote an article where he discussed what he has heard regarding the Blackhawks ahead of Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. In the article, he discussed how right winger Ilya Mikheyev could be one of the players who is traded before the deadline. Below is what he wrote about Mikheyev:

“Ilya Mikheyev could also still be traded. As with [Jason] Dickinson, it would have to be the right offer to make a Mikheyev trade worthwhile. There is also still an outside chance the Blackhawks will re-sign Mikheyev. He turned down their latest offer, but the talks aren’t necessarily dead.”

Mikheyev has been a good player for the Blackhawks since joining ahead of last season. In 136 games with Chicago over the last two seasons, he has recorded 57 points (31 goals, 26 assists) while being +2 when on the ice. He is on the final season of a four-year, $19 million contract that he signed with the Vancouver Canucks. Powers did mention how the Blakhawks could still re-sign Mikheyev this offseason, which could be something that happens whether he is traded or not this week.

The team has not been shy about trading players, already dealing away defenseman Connor Murphy to the Edmonton Oilers. It will be intriguing to see what the Blackhawks decide to do, as there are certainly going to be some teams that are looking to add to their second or third lines with a player on an expiring deal.
