Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin reached a new milestone Wednesday, becoming the first player in NHL history to score 900 goals.

Not long after, one of the most iconic figures from a different discipline joined the celebration in a cross-sports moment.

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk recorded a video congratulating the Capitals captain with the franchise sharing the clip on social networks.

Shortly after Ovechkin reached the 900-goal milestone, Washington's account on X posted the message as the team went on to beat the St. Louis Blues 6-1 inside Capital One Arena to the delight of the Caps crowd, who watched Ovechkin making history home.

“Ovi, what’s up? It’s Tony Hawk,” Hawk said. “Hey, I just want to say congratulations on being the world record holder of most goals scored in the NHL, beating Wayne Gretzky. I know you did that a while ago, but now you have finally reached 900, and I know something about that.”

Hawk famously became the first skater to land a 900-degree spin during the 1999 X Games held in San Francisco. In the clip shared by the Capitals, he added a light-hearted warning while referencing fellow skater Tom Schaar.

“If you reach 1080, then you’re going to have to talk to Tom Schaar, because he’s the guy that did that rotation on the skateboard. But for now, we’re in the 900 Club. Congrats, Ovi.”

Despite Binnington’s attempt to keep the puck, officials ensured it was recovered and returned to Ovechkin.

The 900-goal mark is the latest in a series of milestones for Ovechkin, who broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record in April with No. 895. He now has three goals and five assists in 13 games this season and sits 10 points behind Joe Sakic for 10th on the NHL’s all-time point-scoring list.

The Capitals improved to 7–5-1 on the season after Wednesday's win, and they will visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, when Ovechkin and fellow superstar Sidney Crosby will meet for the 74th time in their careers.
