Welcome to our top 5 Vancouver Canucks fights of the 2024-2025 season. With our friends from HockeyFights.com, at #3, we have the fight between Dakota Joshua and Michael McCarron.
In Game 38 of the season , the Canucks welcomed the Nashville Predators to town. Vancouver looked to redeem themselves after a 5-3 loss to the Predators in mid-November, in which JT Miller was benched in the third period.
It was a reasonably slow start to the game, as the shots were just 4-3 halfway through the opening frame. In order to provide a spark to his team, McCarron followed Joshua into the Canucks end and gave him a tap to the back of his leg. Joshua whipped his head back, recognized it was McCarron, and accepted the fight offer.
They drop their gloves and square off, rekindling the rivalry the two teams created in the first round of the 2023-2024 playoffs. The two skate around before settling in just outside the Canucks’ blueline.
Joshua attempts to grab McCarron, but is too far away to get a grip on him. McCarron lands the first punch, and the power forwards can now link up. With both players battling for hand positioning, Joshua is the first to get his hands loose, but can’t connect on the first punch.
This gives McCarron an advantage, who then connects on a handful of blows to Joshua. The Canucks forward loses his footing, only to get back up and get fed a handful of times by McCarron’s right fist. McCarron continues to throw shots at Joshua before both players fall to the ice, and the refs stop the fight.
Both players’ efforts to spark their team were unfortunately unsuccessful. Neither team would find the back of the net until halfway through the second period, when Steven Stamkos broke the scoreless tie. The scoreline would finish 3-0, after Gustav Nyquist and Colton Sissons found the empty net. This marked just the fourth road win of the season for the Predators, two of which came against the Canucks.
HockeyFights voters gave this fight a 5.84/10 and heavily sided with McCarron, earning 97% of the 37 votes. Unfortunately for Joshua, he did not receive a vote, while 3% of voters believed the fight was a draw.
