Welcome to our top 5 Vancouver Canucks fights of the 2024-2025 season. With our friends from HockeyFights.com, at #5, we have the fight between Dakota Joshua and Brady Tkachuk.
In Game 19 of the season, the Canucks travelled out East for the first of their six-game road trip against the Ottawa Senators on November 23, 2024. And as many games against the Senators go, Brady Tkachuk got the rough stuff going early, trading roughing penalties with Canucks defenceman Noah Juulsen.
Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes also got into the rough stuff, boarding his long-time friend Josh Norris in the back, which left the Senators forward bleeding. Norris went to the room for repairs, while Hughes was given a game misconduct for his actions, just over 12 minutes into the hockey game.
The Senators would not capitalize on the lengthy power play. However, the Canucks would go on their man advantage at the end of the period, off the stick of Jake DeBrusk.
Tkatchuk would find a tally of his own halfway through the second period to even up the game, before the Canucks added two more goals to walk into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead. With one period away from extending the Senators’ four-game losing streak to five, Tkachuk took exception and got into it with Canucks defenceman Carson Soucy. The two were both handed unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for their extracurricular activities after the period ended.
Kiefer Sherwood extended the Canucks’ lead to three halfway through the third, resulting in Tkachuk taking matters into his own hands:
Following a Canucks two-man advantage, in which Tkachuk was in the box for cross-checking Canucks defenceman Filip Hronek, Tkachuk jumped out of the box on a mission.
Tkachuk races to the loose puck in the offensive zone, where he lays the body on Conor Garland. After a brief scoring chance for the Senators, Tkachuk then chases down Juulsen and attempts to hit the defenceman, who brushes him off and into the boards. The puck would find its way out of play, and that’s when Dakota Joshua takes exception.
Joshua maneuvers his way into Tkachuk’s line, where the two would exchange words and push at each other. Immediately locking up, Tkachuk quickly sheds his gloves and starts throwing punches before Joshua even has his gloves off.
The Senators’ Captain threw six punches before Joshua attempted his first. However, Joshua found Tkachuk in a vulnerable position, having fallen over after failing to connect on a big blow. Joshua proceeds to feed Tkachuk with a few upper-cuts, before both players clearly ran out of gas, and the refs got in the middle of the two.
With under 10 minutes to go, Tkachuk was given a 10-minute misconduct, which ended his night. However, this fight ignited some energy into the Senators, as Ottawa scored two goals in the final four minutes of the game. But it wasn’t enough for the Senators to come back, as the Canucks walked away with the 4-3 victory, and Tkachuk tallied 21 minutes of penalties.
HockeyFights voters gave this fight a 5/10 and heavily sided with Tkachuk, earning 91% of the 33 votes. Joshua received 6%, while 3% of voters believed the fight was a draw.
