1: A first goal for Cole Hutson Lane Hutson's younger brother, Cole, played his very first NHL game last night.
And guess what? He took advantage of the opportunity to score his first goal late in the game, after the Senators pulled their goalie in favor of a sixth skater. Way to go, Cole!
The Capitals won 4-1, and everyone was happy for Lane's little brother after the game. In the clip above, we see Connor McMichael pointing his stick toward the net as he skates into the opponent's zone with Hutson. The guys wanted to see the kid score his first career goal… and that's exactly what happened!
2: The Habs can thank the Capitals… and the Hurricanes We know it: the standings are incredibly tight in the East. But yesterday, the Hurricanes and the Capitals helped the Canadiens. The Canes beat the Penguins 6-5 in overtime, and the Caps won 4-1 in regulation against the Senators. Here's the Hurricanes' overtime goal against the Pens:
This means the Canadiens remain in third place in their division, two points ahead of the Red Wings and the Bruins:

Clearly, things are going to heat up between now and the end of the NHL season. And we'll see which teams can hold their ground to secure their spot in the playoffs. This is the most crucial part of the season… and there's no room for error.
3: The Stars and the Avalanche Continue Their Winning Streaks The Stars and the Avalanche are the top two teams in the National Hockey League standings. And that was evident last night as both clubs put on quite a show. Jake Oettinger was in top form:
Both teams are therefore closing in on the famous 100-point mark this NHL season.
The Avalanche are just two points away from reaching it… and the Stars have 96 points on the board. Not bad:

4: Trevor Zegras's return to Anaheim pays off Trevor Zegras was back in Anaheim for the first time since the trade that sent him to Philadelphia. And the Ducks fans gave him a warm welcome:
Honestly, I've rarely seen such a bizarre goal scored in an NHL game. But anyway… the Flyers took advantage of it to pick up two points in the standings thanks to Noah Cates.
The Flames won 2-1 last night against the Blues in a shootout.
The game was pretty dull. These are two teams still finding their footing, and let's just say the action on the ice turned out to be a bit… mediocre. But it's worth noting this: if the Blues lost, it wasn't because they didn't try to win. They managed to challenge three calls in the game that would have given the Flames three goals.
“That's why the rule exists,” you might say… But we can all agree on one thing: seeing a team make three successful challenges in the same game is something else.
But that's really the only thing worth remembering from the game between the Blues and the Flames.
