Top NHL Insider Reveals The Status Of Mitch Marner And The Toronto Maple Leafs' Relationship

Mitch Marner has been taking plenty of criticism since the Maple Leafs Game 5 loss, and according to one insider, their relationship is potentially beyond repair.

The last few days haven't been very positive for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and on Friday, they'll look to keep their season alive as they take on the Florida Panthers in a must-win Game 6 on the road.

Since their 6-1 defeat in Game 5, Mitch Marner has been the butt of many, many jokes on social media, and with his pending free agency this summer, it appears as though he may have finally had enough of the Toronto market.

While that's not yet confirmed, James Mirtle has now revealed the state of the relationship between Marner and the Maple Leafs, stating that it's 'not in a good place right now'.

This comes as no surprise as Marner has once again failed to step up and deliver in big moments, and with the team potentially set to lose before the Eastern Conference Finals again, the overwhelming expectation around the league is that the Core Four is finally set to break up.

When asked about potentially playing his final game as a Maple Leaf, Marner reiterated that he's still focused on winning this series, even with all of the talk on social media since Game 5.

No thoughts of that at all.

While he may not have thought about it yet, if Toronto can't come back to win Game 6 and 7 with a big performance from No. 16, the front office would simply be crucified if they tried to bring him back, and with the relationship being considered a little rocky right now, he could be playing for his future as a Toronto Maple Leaf in Game 6.
