The Toronto Maple Leafs today announced the extension of defenseman William Villeneuve. The deal is a one-year, two-way contract. Villeneuve last season in 55 games for the Marlies had 40 points on four goals and 36 assists. He was a +17 with two power-play goals, a game-winning goal, and 42 penalty minutes. In two Calder Cup Playoff games, he had two assists. He finished as a minus-six.

The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted William Villeneuve 122nd overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Before being drafted, he spent three seasons in the QMJHL with the Saint John Sea Dogs. In 152 games, he had 97 points on 13 goals and 84 assists. He was a -50 with 98 penalty minutes. He played in two games with the Marlies during the 2020-21 season. The next season, he was back with the Sea Dogs, playing in 64 games. Villeneuve had 56 points on eight goals and 48 assists. He was a +60 with 28 penalty minutes. He then joined the Marlies. In 2022-23 and 2023-24, he combined to play in 108 games. He had 50 points on five goals and 45 assists. He was a +11 with a power-play goal, a game-winning goal, and 75 penalty minutes. In 165 career AHL games, he had 90 points on nine goals and 81 assists. He is a +28 with three power-play goals, two game-winning goals, and 117 penalty minutes.
