The Toronto Maple Leafs lost Mitch Marner this off-season, and in the trailer for the NHL26 video game, we saw him score against his former team.
Fans of the NHL got some great news this week when not only the cover athlete for NHL 26 was revealed, but the first look at the new NHL video game was revealed with a trailer.
Some were highly underwhelmed and will continue to criticized the video game franchise that has failed to change or improve for years now, but for others, it was a very exciting moment for the new game that they'll play over the next 12 months.
There were many notable moments in the trailer, but for Maple Leafs fans, one stood out above the rest, as we got our first look at Mitch Marner in a Vegas Golden Knights jersey on the ice.
Very early after the trailer was revealed, fans were quick to point out that not only do we get our first glance at Marner, but he also scores on his former team the Maple Leafs, fuelling the rivalry that has now been built following his departure.
While some fans may not care about this or may have simply moved on from Marner after he left for Vegas, others are incensed and are looking forward to the moment he returns to Toronto, one that could provide the best atmosphere of the season.
At the end of the day, it's just a video game, but we know by now that plenty of people are fond of trolling the Maple Leafs, and after letting go of a 100-point scorer this off-season, it's always going to be notable when he's shown scoring on them in the release of a video game trailer.
