David Kirouac-Imagn Images

Just before the start of the season, Sportico releases their updated list of NHL franchise valuations. Once again, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the most valuable NHL franchise, but this year have set NHL history as the first team to surpass $4B in value.

This year, the Leafs are valued at an impressive $4.25B, up 16% and $590M from 2024. Despite losing Mitch Marner this offseason, the franchise remains the biggest market in the NHL with an unwavering fanbase and still a Stanley Cup contending team.

Sportico’s full list of 2025 values is below, along with 2024 values, and the changes year over year (YOY).

Number one

We’ve gotten used to the Leafs being number one on this list, but the achievement shouldn’t glossed over.

With all the evidence on how United States based teams with no state tax are benefiting the most in today’s NHL landscape, this list further emphasizes how the NHL takes storied Canadian franchises for granted. Three of the top six most valuable franchise are Canadian teams, and the NHL simply doesn’t do enough to help these teams thrive.

The Leafs are a massive part of why the NHL is relevant, as are the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers, and it’s important for this information to be public.

No other NHL team is even close to achieving the valuation figure of the Leafs; the New York Rangers are second and lag behind by $600M. Even the two-time Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers are below the $2B mark, even with a 51% YOY increase in value.

The Leafs are number one, and always will be.
