The Toronto Marlies have announced their training camp roster following the latest round of cuts from Toronto Maple Leafs training camp.

Headlining the prospects for the Marlies are forward Luke Haymes, who was signed out of the NCAA during the offseason and impressed in his limited looks with the Maple Leafs, along with fellow NCAA signing Jacob Quillan, defenceman Noah Chadwick, and goaltenders Artur Akhtyamov and Vyacheslav Peksa. With the departures of veterans such as Joseph Blandisi this summer, the Marlies restocked the cupboards in that department by bringing in the likes of Travis Boyd and Vinni Lettieri along with the return of Alex Nylander.

Almost all of the players present are signed to either AHL or NHL contracts, with the exception of two professional tryouts (PTOs). Aaron Bohlinger is a defenceman who spent last season with Quinnipiac University and registered 14 points in 32 games. Goaltender Kyle McClellan spent last season with the Iowa Heartlanders of the ECHL where he put together a record of 15-15-5 with a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.62 and a save percentage (SV%) of .898.

A couple of interesting names to watch include Borya Valis, who was one of the Leafs’ most recent cuts and could push himself to the top of the list of call-ups due to his style of game and ability to fit into a bottom-six role. Then there’s Ryan Tverberg, who falls into a similar category as Valis and is looking to rebound after a 2024-25 season that saw him lose a step offensively.

It will be interesting to see how Noah Chadwick fares in his first season as a pro. He’s the Maple Leafs’ second-best defensive prospect after Ben Danford and unlocked a new part of his game with back-to-back 50+ point seasons as a defenceman, despite not being known for his offensive abilities when the team drafted him. Whether or not he’s able to translate that part of his game to the pro level will be a big factor in whether or not he gets into a few NHL games over the next few years.

The Marlies will open their season on Friday October 10 when they visit the AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, the Rochester Americans, before hosting them for their home opener on Saturday October 11.
