The Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to be sellers at the March 6th NHL trade deadline. General Manager Brad Treliving will shift his focus towards the 2026-27 season. One of his current trade chips is forward Bobby McMann.
McMann has registered 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points in 56 games this season. In this article, I will look at five teams that are possible landing spots for McMann.
The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to McMann for a while. They can make the cap space for a deal work if the Maple Leafs take back a player like Andrew Mangiapane, or are willing to retain 50% of McMann’s current contract.
The Oilers need to add depth scoring if they want another lengthy postseason. McMann helps them add that depth, and he can play up and down their lineup.
The San Jose Sharks are surprisingly competitive this season. They seem capable of making a push for a playoff spot. The acquisition of Kiefer Sherwood shows they’re willing to add pieces. It also shows that they have confidence in their team. McMann could be the extra piece needed for them to become a serious contender.
While the Sharks aren’t a low-scoring team, adding another offensive-minded forward like McMann makes them a stronger team heading toward the playoffs.
The Los Angeles Kings will be trying to add forward depth. They lost forward Kevin Fiala to a major injury during the Olympics. Now, they were able to add Artemi Panarin before the Olympic roster freeze. A deal that shows they mean business. With plenty of cap space, they can afford to add McMann.
The Maple Leafs might favor a deal with the Kings. LA won’t require Toronto to retain any salary. Additionally, they still possess some solid future assets that Treliving would be interested in.
The Vegas Golden Knights want to make a deep playoff run for their second Stanley Cup. They acquired Mitch Marner in the summer and gave him a five-year extension. A signing that signals to the team that Vegas is all-in for the next several seasons.
McMann can give the Golden Knights some much-needed depth scoring going into the playoffs. They have proven that they’re willing to be aggressive, so adding a player like McMann shows their willingness to go all-in. The Maple Leafs would likely need to retain salary for a deal with Vegas to work.
The Colorado Avalanche are the strongest team in the NHL this season. They will be considered the favourites to win the Stanley Cup. Despite being the favourites, it doesn’t hurt to add scoring depth to ensure a long playoff run. The Avalanche also have the assets to make a deal happen.
All five of these teams make sense as a laning spot for McMann at the trade deadline. The Maple Leafs will be asking a lot in return, especially if there’s a bidding war. Right now, Toronto for sure wants a first-round pick involved. We’ll see what happens in just over a week.
