
The Detroit Red Wings are signing goalie Trey Augustine to a three-year entry-level contract today. The contract starts in 2026-27, he will be reporting to the Red Wings AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, for the remainder of the season on an Amateur Tryout. Augustine and his Michigan State Spartans saw their season come to an end yesterday after they blew a 3-1 lead to the Wisconsin Badgers, and they lost 4-3, 24 seconds into overtime, with Wisconsin advancing to the Frozen Four. In 34 games this season, he went 24-9-1 with a 2.11 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage, and three shutouts. Augustine was third in the country in wins, 12th in goals-against average, and sixth in save percentage.

The Detroit Red Wings drafted Augustine 41st overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old goalie joined Michigan State in 2023-24, where in 35 games he went 23-9-2 with a 2.96 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage, and three shutouts. He played in four games at the WJC, going 4-0-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. Leading Team USA to gold. The next season, in 30 games for the Spartans, he went 19-7-4 with a 2.08 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage, and three shutouts. He once again played for Team USA in the WJC.
