Two Pittsburgh Penguins draft choices have signed amateur tryout agreements with their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.
Both players — defenseman Kalle Kangas and forward Emil Jarventie — are Finnish and were selected in the seventh round of the NHL Draft last summer. They have been named to Finland’s squad for the Under-20 Five Nations tournament in Slovakia, where they will compete later this month, after a stint in Wilkes-Barre.
Kangas, who is 6-foot-4, 198 pounds, had four goals and five assists in 40 games with Jokerit of Finland’s Mestis, the second-highest league in that country, this season.
Jarventie, 19, had nine goals and 12 assists in 41 games for KooVee in the Mestis in 2023-24. He also scored a goal in three appearances with Ilves Tampere of the Liiga, Finland’s top league.
He is the younger brother of Ottawa Senators prospect Roby Jarventie.
