While the Winnipeg Jets lost Nikolaj Ehlers in free agency to Carolina, they could replace him with a pair of young players in Nikita Chibrikov and Brad Lambert.

The Winnipeg Jets experienced a major loss in free agency, losing top-line forward Nikolaj Ehlers, who signed with the Carolina Hurricanes.

But they weren't without additions, as they brought in veterans Gustav Nyquist and Jonathan Toews to help offset some of the offensive load he leaves behind.

They're also going to be counting on contributions from young players, including Brad Lambert and Nikita Chibrikov.

Lambert, taken with the 30th pick by the Jets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, had 35 points (7G, 28A) in 61 games with the Jet's AHL affiliate Manitoba Moose this year.

Lambert's scouting report via Elite Prospects read as follows:

He flies up and down the ice with perfect skating posture, ample flexibility through his ankles, knees and hips, and a stable upper body. His top hand is pushed out, free from his torso, and he cradles the puck at the heel of his blade with quickness and precision that most players can't match.

Winnipeg also wants to see prospect Nikita Chibrikov, taken with the 50th pick by the Jets in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, to begin making his mark. He had 18 points (7G, 11A) in 30 games with the Moose this year.

his scouting report via Elite Prospects reads as follows:

If you give him space, a runway through the neutral zone, or a pocket in the offensive end, he will cut around the opposition with a combination of rapid handling and crossovers moves. He locates teammates early in possession sequences and finds ways to reach them by going to his backhand, by saucing the puck above sticks, banking it on the boards, or the goalie's pads.

As training camp begins it will be interesting to see if either player can separate themselves and become a difference maker for the Jets next season.
