Daemon Hunt has re-signed with the Minnesota Wild.
The Wild announced that Hunt has agreed to a one-year, $900,000 contract that will keep the 24-year-old in Minnesota for his fourth season in the NHL.
The defenseman played 32 games for the Wild last season while bouncing back and forth between the NHL and the Iowa Wild in the AHL. He didn't score a goal while registering six assists.
Hunt is unlikely to have a big role with the Wild in 2026-27, but the trade of Jake Middleton to the Calgary Flames has opened the door for the former third-round pick to carve out a depth role and perhaps spend the entire season in the NHL.
If the season started today, the Wild's top three defensive pairs would feature Quinn Hughes with Brock Faber, Jared Spurgeon with Jonas Brodin, and Olli Maatta with Zach Bogosian.
The roster isn't complete as the Wild search for upgrades. NHL insider Michael Russo reported on July 2 that the Wild are still attempting to trade for Detroit No. 1 center Dylan Larkin, and they also called the New Jersey Devils about Quinn Hughes' superstar brother, Jack Hughes.
Here's how Russo sees the current forward depth chart:
The new names are Coleman and Shabanov. Coleman was acquired from the Flames along with Maatta in the Middleton trade, and Shabanov signed a one-year, $1.6 million deal after playing in Russia's KHL last season.
Nico Sturm, 31, could also push for a spot on the roster, while prospects like Hunter Haight, Charlie Stramel, Tyler Pitlick, Mason Shaw, and Riley Heidt will be playing for a chance in training camp.
