The Utah Mammoth announced Wednesday that they have traded goaltender Connor Ingram to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for future considerations. Utah is retaining $800k of his $1.95 million salary for this season. This allows Edmonton to send Ingram immediately down to their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Just last week, the Mammoth placed Ingram on waivers to find him a new team, however, he went unclaimed. With the signing of Vitek Vanecek, Ingram was essentially replaced as the backup. He didn’t even attend training camp with Utah. Now, Ingram gets a fresh start with the Oilers in the final year of his three-year contract.

The 2024-2025 season was a difficult time for Ingram. In 22 games played, the 28-year-old had a 9-8-4 record, 3.27 goals-against average, and an .882 save percentage. While the stats aren’t pretty, personal reasons certainly played a role. Ingram left the team in early March and entered the NHL abd NHLPA Player Assistance Program, and was not cleared to return until late August. This was the second time in his career that Ingram went into the program.
Despite team struggles, Ingram was great in Arizona from the 2022-23 season to 2023-24. He went 29-34-11 record in 77 appearances with a .907 SV%. The skill is there, but the question is, can Ingram rebound from a very tough year in Utah? The trade to Edmonton could help him personally. He likely won’t see much time with the Oilers, barring an injury, because of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. However, he may potentially find his form with the Condors. He doesn’t have to worry about the pressure of playing as an NHL goaltender. Ingram can just enjoy the game again and work his way back into the league.
Lastly, the Oilers have been known for their troubles in the crease the last few seasons. If Skinner or Pickard aren’t playing up to standards, Ingram should get the first look as a call-up. This trade could be a turning point for Ingram.
