The Vancouver Canucks have made a number of roster moves on Sunday, including the call up of top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki.
Less than 24 hours after a 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, the Vancouver Canucks are making some changes, as General Manager Patrik Allvin has announced a handful of roster moves this morning.
Yes, you read that correctly. Vancouver Canucks top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki is on his way to the National Hockey League. But he's not the only one to get their first NHL call-up.
Along with Jonathan Lekkerimaki, the Vancouver Canucks announced that goaltender Ty Young has been called up to the National Hockey League, less than a week after he was brought to Abbotsford from the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings.
Lekkerimaki, a native of Tullinge, Sweden, has appeared in four games for the Abbotsford Canucks this season where he's put up seven points (five goals, two assists), no penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
As for Ty Young, who's in his first season of professional hockey, he's made two starts for the Kalamazoo Wings in 2024-25 where he has a record of 1-1-0 along with a 1.01 goals against average and a .974 save percentage.
Being sent down to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks are forwards Nils Aman and Arshdeep Bains, as well as Latvian goaltender Arturs Silovs, who stopped all four shots he faced in relief during Saturday's loss to Edmonton.
'General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Arshdeep Bains, F Nils Åman and G Artūrs ilovs have been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) and F Jonathan Lekkerimäki and G Ty Young have been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL).' The Canucks said.
The Vancouver Canucks will be back in action on Tuesday night at Rogers Arena against the Calgary Flames. It's safe to say that'll be Jonathan Lekkerimaki's National Hockey League debut. Puck drop for that contest is set for 7 pm PT on Sportsnet Pacific and Sportsnet One across Canada.
