It is about time, time for a change. The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly closing in on a deal to build a practice facility at Vancouver, British Columbia’s Britannia Rink. According to Irfaan Gaffar of CanucksArmy, it will include various amenities for the players to use on a regular basis. Let’s discuss.

Canucks May Finally Get A Much-Needed Practice Facility

The Canucks are currently the only team without plans to build a practice facility. As of now, the Canucks usually practice at Rogers Arena or UBC, depending on availability. This left the Canucks as an unpopular pick for free agents as a team they would sign with. It has been a common complaint among Canucks fans, and has been mentioned by people who left the organization, including former head coach Rick Tocchet, and former players as well. Former goaltender Arturs Silovs , after joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, said, “ Here it’s like, there’s your own locker room, you don’t have to move your things all the time. You can skate and do your stuff to improve. I think it’s a huge bonus for the team.” Former captain Quinn Hughes, when asked about the Minnesota Wild’s practice facility, mentioned that it was better with “nothing being new – just kind of not knowing where to park and where the entrance is and all that stuff.

How Britannia Rink Fits the Canucks’ Needs

This potential agreement with the Canucks and City of Vancouver comes as the city is resuming plans on replacing the outdated Britannia Community Centre, according to Kenneth Chan of The Province. Prior to this, Canucks management had reportedly sought out other locations, such as Burnaby’s Rosemary Brown Recreation Centre. They have done their due diligence, but have come under fire as the Canucks are the last team without a practice facility plan.

Britannia Rink is a ten-minute drive from Rogers Arena, where the Canucks play their games. This bodes well for the potential deal, as it would be convenient for the players and staff to travel to. The ice rink had been closed since March 2024 due to a brine leak and other mechanical issues, but reopened on February 16, 2026, to the public after upgrades were complete.

This practice facility may take many more years to finish construction and is still in the planning phases. However, the big news is that the Canucks finally have a plan for a practice facility. Canucks players and management can finally breathe a sigh of relief, should this agreement be complete. As the Canucks enter a rebuild and develop younger players, this news could not come at a better time.
