Vancouver Canucks Forced to Publicly Address Rampant Quinn Hughes Rumour

The Vancouver Canucks recently hired Adam Foote as their Head Coach, and now they insist it had nothing to do with keeping Quinn Hughes beyond his current deal.

After letting go of Rick Tocchet earlier in the off-season, the Vancouver Canucks announced his replacement just minutes after it was confirmed he would be heading to the Philadelphia Flyers, with assistant and two-time Stanley Cup Champion Adam Foote to take on the role beginning in 2025/26.

This was a positive move for captain Quinn Hughes, who has previously applauded the role Foote has done with Vancouver, and likewise, the new Head Coach praised Hughes, although he revealed that the two didn't have a conversation when the discussions about becoming Head Coach came about with the front office.

'But Quinn and I, we didn't have a discussion during the process, which I think was a very good idea not to. I just had a great talk with him this morning, we had some laughs and we're excited to move forward with this.'

That was a sentiment that was supported by GM Patrik Allvin, who reiterates that this hiring isn't about one person, despite rumours this move would make Quinn Hughes happy as speculation continues to grow that he could leave after his current deal.

'Again, it's not about one player, it's about the team here, and we want to build and continue to grow as a team and Quinn is a big part of it. Obviously, the trust and the relationship Adam has with Quinn, it's important for us to get off to a good start and continue to build, but again, Quinn was not involved in this process.'

Ultimately, it's likely that Hughes' future had some part to play in Foote being hired as the new Head Coach, but given his relationship with the front office, the hire shouldn't come as any surprise.
