While it was a disappointing campaign for the Vancouver Canucks, Kiefer Sherwood made history with an incredible, history making season at 30-years old as he finally put it all together.
The Vancouver Canucks came into the 2024/25 season with Stanley Cup hopes and dreams, and whether it's due to injuries, drama off the ice or their inconsistencies on it, they were eliminated rather quickly, ending what was a very disappointing campaign.
There were some shining lights however, as captain Quinn Hughes once again led from the front, but it was 30-year old Kiefer Sherwood finally finding his footing that perhaps stands out the most.
After years of trying to make an impact in the NHL, it all came together for Sherwood this season, as he posted a career high in goals (19) and points (40) in 78 games played.
However, he would also make NHL history, and as hockey reporter Cam Robinson put it, he not only beat a record, but in the process of passing it he absolutely shattered the all-time NHL single season record for hits.
The record was once held by Jeremy Lauzon with 383 hits, but in 2024/25, Sherwood laid of 462 hits, passing him by almost 80, and with a few games missed, it's safe to say he could have passed it by more if he had the opportunity.
Unfortunately Sherwood's hits didn't help this team to much success, but at 30-years old, it appears he has finally found his home in the NHL, and if the team can get healthy and more talented around him, there's no reason why he can't impact the game in a positive way for years to come in Vancouver.
