Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has made the official announcement today of the three assistant coaches that will join Vancouver for the upcoming season.
The Vancouver Canucks are rounding out their roster of coaches under newly appointed head coach Adam Foote.
Weeks after Foote's hiring, general manager Patrik Allvin announced that assembling the staff of assistant coaches was already in progress.
They acted earlier in the week by signing veteran assistant coach Kevin Dean, who played in the NHL both in Chicago and Boston.
Dean should be in charge of the defense, a job he's accustomed to doing since coaching blueliners with the Blackhawks and Bruins, and as Foote did with Vancouver during the last three seasons.
Dean, 56, is both a former player and a former assistant coach. A former NHL defenseman, he spent 331 games with the New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Dallas Stars, and Chicago Blackhawks.
A fifth-round choice of New Jersey in the 1987 NHL Draft, he coached behind the bench for five years with the Bruins and six with their AHL affiliate in Providence, one season as head coach.
Alongside Dean at the Canucks' bench are Brett McLean and Scott Young, filling out Foote's coaching staff. McLean and Young will probably oversee the team's offensive systems, complementing Dean's defensive expertise.
With the staff complete, the Canucks are hoping to return to the playoffs next season and are banking on this new coaching staff to get the team back on track, which is something fans are surely hoping for.
