Vancouver Canucks goalie prospect Arturs Silovs, who got several games of NHL postseason experience under his belt last year, is approaching AHL history with the Abbotsford Canucks.
It was just over a year ago that the Vancouver Canucks turned to prospect goaltender Arturs Silovs in the Stanley Cup Playoffs thanks to the injury to starter Thatcher Demko and the unreliability of then-backup Casey DeSmith.
Silovs performed about as well as anyone could have expected for a rookie suddenly thrust into Stanley Cup Playoff action, taking the Canucks to Game 7 against the eventual Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers.
While he didn't play as well to begin this season with the Canucks and was soon sent back down to the AHL, he's now on the verge of setting AHL history with the Abbotsford Canucks.
In his 1st 14 playoff games, Silovs has pitched 5 shutouts, putting him only a single shutout away from tying the mark set by former Vancouver Canucks goalie Mika Noronen for the most in a single playoff run in AHL history; Noronen accomplished his feat in 2000 with the Rochester Americans.
He and the AHL's Canucks have a 2-0 lead over the Texas Stars in their current postseason series.
With Abbotsford, he went 14-5-2 with a solid 2.41 GAA and .908 SV%; so far in the playoffs, he's performed even better with a 10-3 record and a 1.61 GAA, a .941 SV% and 5 shutouts.
There is a chance that Silovs could get more playing time with the Canucks next season if the rumors of a a potential moving of Demko prove true.
