Viggo Björck Feels Like a Very 'Jets' Draft Pick

Every NHL Draft has a few players that divide people a little bit, and Viggo Björck definitely feels like one of those guys this year. Some scouts look at the size first and immediately get nervous. Others watch the way he actually plays hockey and think, “Okay, this kid might really have something.”

And honestly, the Winnipeg Jets feel like the kind of team that could absolutely talk themselves into this pick.

Björck has a high hockey IQ.

The first thing that jumps out with Björck is that he’s just really smart. He processes the game quickly, sees plays developing early, and has that slippery offensive style where he creates space without looking like he’s forcing things. Those players tend to translate better than people think, especially when they’ve already proven they can handle playing against older competition.

That’s a big reason why his season in Sweden turned heads. Playing meaningful minutes in the SHL at his age is not easy. Coaches over there don’t hand young players ice time just because they’re talented. You earn it. And as the season went on, Björck earned more trust, more responsibility, and bigger moments. That says a lot about how mature his game already is.

The World Juniors helped put Björck on the NHL’s map.

Jets fans probably noticed him there because he didn’t look overwhelmed at all. He looked calm, creative, and dangerous offensively. Those tournaments matter because they give you a glimpse of how players react when the pace ramps up and the pressure gets heavy. Björck looked like he belonged.

The size question is real. The Jets have traditionally leaned toward bigger bodies in the draft, especially down the middle. That’s part of why Björck feels a little different. But NHL teams are slowly getting less rigid about that stuff if the hockey sense is elite enough. And with Bjorck, the offensive instincts may simply outweigh the concerns.

The Jets have a solid history with Swedish players.

Winnipeg has a solid recent history with Swedish players. That means there’s clearly comfort there organizationally. The scouting pipeline is strong, the development track is familiar, and the Jets seem to trust what they’re seeing out of Sweden lately. Björck fits that mould almost perfectly: skilled, mature, competitive, and already playing structured pro hockey overseas.

What makes him especially interesting for Winnipeg is the long-term fit. The Jets don’t necessarily need him to become a superstar. But could he eventually grow into a reliable second-line centre who drives offence and helps stabilize the top six? That’s where the conversation starts getting really interesting.

Björck isn’t a huge player, but he could be a good one.

So while he may not be the biggest player on the board, Björck feels like exactly the kind of prospect smart organizations slowly fall in love with during the draft process.
