Washington Capitals Place Four on Waivers

The Washington Capitals today placed four players on waivers with the purpose of assigning them to Hershey in the AHL. The Capitals picked up a 5-1 win last night to complete their preseason schedule. They went 3-0-1, averaging 3.8 goals per game while allowing two goals per game. The players placed on waivers were forward Spencer Smallman and Jonny Brodzinski, defenseman Louie Belpedio, and goalie Clay Stevenson.

Brodzinski, in his lone game, scored a goal and was a plus-two. Smallman, in his lone game, had an assist and was even in plus/minus. Belpedio played in one game, recording an assist and was a minus-one. Stevenson didn’t appear in any preseason games with the Capitals.

Brodzinski appeared in 55 games for the Rangers last season, recording 16 points on six goals and ten assists; he was a minus-one. Smallman, in 24 games for Hershey last season, had 11 points on four goals and seven assists. He was a plus-two with two power-play goals.

Belpedio appeared in 68 games for Hershey last season, recording 34 points on nine goals and 25 assists. He was a minus-three with a power-play goal and a game-winning goal. He had one assist in six playoff games and was a plus-two.

Stevenson in four games for the Capitals went 3-1-0 last season. He had a 2.00 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Stevenson also appeared in 37 games for Hershey, going 18-13-4 with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. He went 3-3-0 with a 2.15 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage, and a shutout in the playoffs.
