On Tuesday night, the Vancouver Canucks welcomed former centreman JT Miller to Rogers Arena for the first time since trading him to the New York Rangers in January.

With that welcome, the Canucks honoured him with a video tribute highlighting his six incredible seasons in Vancouver.

Watch from a fan’s perspective inside Rogers Arena.

You can hear some faint “J-T Mill-Er” chants in the background.

However, it wasn’t all cheers. Before the tribute, Miller received some boos in Rogers Arena when he carried the puck:

Miller spent six seasons in Vancouver, highlighted by his 2023-24 campaign, where he scored a career-high 37 goals and 103 points. Although appearing in just two postseason runs in a Canucks uniform, Miller scored nine goals and 30 points in 30 playoff games. His 1.0 point-per-game average has him in a tie with Thomas Gradin (38 points in 38 games) for the second-highest scoring rate in Canucks postseason history – only behind Pavel Bure (68 points in 60 games).

There was no bigger postseason goal for Miller than the one in the dying seconds of Game 5 against the Edmonton Oilers to put the Canucks within a game of the Western Conference Finals.

Shortly after the video tribute, the Rangers were sent to the power play after an Arshdeep Bains tripping penalty. Playing primarily at the net front, Alexis Lafreniere set Miller up with a wide-open net. The ex-Canuck was falling over as he received the pass and shot it wide of the net.

It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Miller and the Rangers. They currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and 29th in the league standings with a 3-5-2 record. It’s been a struggle on offence for the Miller-led Rangers. Their 22 goals this season rank dead last in the entire National Hockey League.

The fans gave one last cheer to JT Miller during his video tribute, but will now hope they do not hear his name again by PA Announcer Al Murdoch for the rest of the night.
