Watch: Oilers get an assist from a plate of nachos on third-period goal

Just when you think you'd seen it all, the NHL provided one of the cheesiest goals in recent memory.

Edmonton Oilers forward Corey Perry snapped a wrist shot past Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson early in the third period Tuesday night to cut the game deficit to 3-2.

However, just before his shot Perry had to navigate himself, and the puck, past a whole plate of nachos that somehow ended up on the ice surface. Yes, you read that correctly, a whole plate of nachos.

Despite protests from Thompson to the officials regarding the culinary distraction, the goal stood. Apparently it's not illegal to have food interfere with a live play in the NHL.

The Edmonton ice crew was called out to clean up the mess, scooping yellow chunks of cheese mixed with ice shavings into buckets and away from the action.

Perry's strange tally was his eighth of the season, breaking a four-game point-less streak for the 39-year-old veteran.

It's unclear why or how the nachos ended up on the ice in the first place but the Oilers will take the offensive help however they can get it.
