We have some action on the NHL waiver wire this fine Sunday, and it involves a young hometown forward from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tampa Bay has indeed placed forward Gabriel Fortier on the NHL waiver wire, an excellent skater.

See the official confirmation from the reputable Elliotte Friedman.

"Gabriel Fortier (TB) is on waivers. He had off-season surgery, so he must be close to ready." - Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet

Let's remember that, for a few more days, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens have a top-5 priority for claiming players on waivers.

They didn't use this priority to claim Jakob Pelletier or Raphaël Lavoie, but could a young player like Fortier interest them this time?

Given Josh Anderson's uncertain health status and Juraj Slafkovsky's injury for a few more days, could he help the Montreal Canadiens in the meantime?

Stay tuned, as he could be a solid organizational addition, especially if he can start with Pascal Vincent and the Laval Rocket.

Details to follow, the answer within 24 hours.

Gabriel Fortier, 24 years old, is a 5-foot-11, 179-pound forward from Lachine, Quebec, and was the 59th overall pick in the 2018 draft (2nd round) by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He has 11 games of experience in the NHL and has scored 55 points in the AHL over the past two seasons.
