Week 2 Pacific Division Power Rankings

7. Vancouver Canucks (0-2-0)

Last week: 5

The Canucks are the other Pacific team without any points yet, despite holding a 3-0 lead over the Edmonton Oilers and a 2-0 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers. It seems like there’s already some frustrating mounting in Vancouver.

6. Seattle Kraken (1-1-1)

Last week: 7

The Kraken started the season with a solid road trip to Southern California, picking up a point in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks before a 4-1 win over the LA Kings. Their home opener on Saturday didn’t go as well, though. The Vegas Golden Knights scored 12 seconds into the game and cruised to a 5-2 win.

The Matty Beniers Calder campaign is off to a good start with a goal and three assists through three games.

5. Anaheim Ducks (1-1-0)

Last week: 6

After starting the season with that thrilling OT win over the Kraken, the Ducks started out an East coast road trip by getting their doors blown off by the New York Islanders, 7-1.

Troy Terry has picked up right where he left off after his breakout 37-goal season last year. He’s already potted three goals through two games this year.

4. Los Angeles Kings (1-2-0)

Last week: 3

After a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Vegas and an uninspired 4-1 loss to Seattle at home, the Kings went on the road and got their first victory of the season in a chaotic 7-6 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Kevin Fiala scored a goal and added two assists in his return to Minnesota, picking up his first three points with the Kings.

It’s a win that they needed, but that’s not the result you’ll usually get when you give up six goals. Having allowed 14 goals through three games, the Kings are going to have to figure out how to do a better job of keeping the puck out of their net.

3. Edmonton Oilers (1-1-0)

Last week: 1

Slow starts have been an issue for the Oilers in their first two games, falling behind 3-0 to the Canucks and then 4-1 to the Calgary Flames. They were able to come back and beat Vancouver 5-3, but fell short against Calgary, dropping this season’s first edition of the Battle of Alberta by a final score of 4-3 on Saturday.

It’s not been a great start in Edmonton for Jack Campbell, who was pulled in the first period on  Saturday after allowing four goals on 11 shots. You know who it has been a great start for? Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, of course, who each have five points in two games. McDavid is tied for the lead league with four goals and had a hat trick in the season opener, because of course he did.

2. Vegas Golden Knights (3-0-0)

Last week: 4

It’s been a strong start for the Golden Knights, who followed up that late win in LA with wins over the Blackhawks and Kraken.

Goaltending has not been an issue for Vegas so far. The tandem of Logan Thompson and Adin Hill has combined to allow just five goals through the first three games, with Thompson recording a 27-save shutout in the Knights’ home opener against the Hawks on Thursday.

1. Calgary Flames (2-0-0)

Last week: 2

So far, so good for the new-look Flames. They’ve started the season by knocking off the two teams that met in the Western Conference Final last year, picking up a 5-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche before getting some revenge for last year’s playoff loss to the Oilers with a 4-3 win in Edmonton on Saturday.

It was a pretty nice week for Nazem Kadri. He’s already scored a goal and added two assists through two games with Calgary, and he was also presented with his Stanley Cup ring from some of his former Avalanche teammates after beating them on Thursday.
