One of the best goal-scorers in the NCAA figures to have his pick of the litter among future NHL homes.
Western Michigan University captain Jason Polin -- who scored 30 goals in 37 games for the Broncos this season -- is fielding calls from teams in hopes of continuing his hockey career at the professional level.
Mark Divver, a contributor for the NHL, reports that the Boston Bruins plan on making a big run at the forward, while Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe additionally reports that Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin has a heightened interest in the Western Michigan product. Divver passes on that Polin will be heavily swayed by whichever team can guarantee immediate playing time or immediate opportunities.
Both outfits could be real fits for Polin, though in different ways. The Bruins, with eight players projected to become unrestricted free agents at the conclusion of the season, will need a creative approach to retooling their roster. For their part, the Wild remain somewhat handicapped due to the buyout penalties for Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, which should incentivize the organization to maximize production at a lower cost.
