On Thursday, the Minnesota Wild claimed defenseman Cameron Crotty off waivers from the Ottawa Senators.

Crotty was put on waivers by the Senators on Wednesday after a rather uneventful start to the 2026-27 season. He played in just three of the team’s first 13 games, last getting into the lineup on Oct. 15, when Ottawa beat the New York Islanders in a shootout. The 27-year-old has yet to register a point thus far, posting a plus/minus of +1 while averaging 11:09 of ice time per game.

The Ottawa native entered the year after appearing in six games with the Sens last season, his most NHL appearances in a single season. Crotty registered his first big-league point, an assist, on April 7 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He even dressed for Ottawa in the postseason, playing in Game 3 of the team’s first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes. Crotty spent the majority of the 2025-26 campaign with the Sens’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Belleville Senators, scoring three goals and 10 points in 49 games.

This will be Crotty’s second stint with the Wild. He signed a one-year contract with the team as a free agent in July 2024, but only appeared in one game with Minnesota. He spent the 2024-25 season as captain of the Wild’s primary affiliate, the Iowa Wild, which saw him post 10 assists in 64 games.

In 12 NHL games, Crotty has just one assist. In 332 regular-season games in the AHL, he has notched 12 goals and 47 assists for 59 points, with one assist in four Calder Cup Playoff contests.

The Wild (9-3-2) are set to host the Islanders on Thursday night. Minnesota currently holds the best record in the Central Division, tied with the Edmonton Oilers for first place in the Western Conference.

Crotty wasn’t the only player put on waivers on Wednesday. The Columbus Blue Jackets put defenseman Carson Soucy on the wire. He cleared waivers and can now be assigned to the Blue Jackets’ top farm team, the Cleveland Monsters.
